Apparently Dragonborn is the mystery race that has been whispered about online. I'm not sure this is confirmed but given the direction they are going (especially with their new pantheon) a draconic race seems to make sense. I haven't much more info than the name, but it sounds self explanatory to me.
I've been reading the same information as you Mortellan. I did question the source of the information though, did you see it posted on enworld? Even though I questioned the source, it does seem like a logical direction WOTC would go. I haven't been impressed with the draconic races in 3.5, not that there is anything wrong with them, I'm just slow to accept new things. I can easily picture it though, and being the game is stilled called Dungeons & Dragons (I don't think they changed that part did they?) it would make sense as well. Guess we will find out soon enough when the preview books come out. Is anybody from Canonfire going to buy them? _________________ Eileen of Greyhawk, Prophet of Istus, Messenger of the Gods
Is this a new standard racial option in the PHB? Could be interesting if handled with a degree of subtlety. There's a lot of mystery IMC surrounding the origin of Sorcerors and I would hate to have a simplistic answer like "they've all got a bit of dragon in 'em".
Eileen; I doubt I'll buy the preview book(s). My thinking at this time is that I'll wait for the new PHB, check it out, plunder what I like and then consider any further purchases carefully. On another thread GVD was highlighting the possibility of Paizo developing a 3.75 variant so I'm keeping a watchful eye on that although I've not heard any further developments. Have you guys?
No, I was reading paizo earlier tonight and the closest thing I found was Eric stating they were still uncertain. He did ask folks if they would still subscribe to Pathfinder if Paizo offered conversion notes for other editions, this assuming that Paizo were to go with 4th edition. Now if we could talk him into doing Greyhawk conversion notes.
I won't get the preview books either. I'll browse through them at the store but regardless of what's in them I'm sticking with 3.5. Spent to many gold pieces already.
Some folks at WOTC speculated that the draconic race could be thrown in as the new paladin thing, taking into consideration Bahamut. _________________ Eileen of Greyhawk, Prophet of Istus, Messenger of the Gods
All we have is a name and they rankle me, but just for fun if one were to implement this new race into Greyhawk I'm afraid the groundwork is already there to place them without much effort: The Dragon Annual 1 Oerth map has a few locations far enough from the Flanaess to be perfect homes for Dragonborn now emerging on the scene.
There is the Empire of Lynn encompassing an area three times the size of the Great Kingdom. From Robert Kuntz's Maure Castle levels we know a bit about Lynn and their culture associated with dragons.
Then there is the reviled Nippon Dominions south of the Flanaess upon which the southern sea is named for a Dragon-King. For someone wanting to avoid a Japan analogue, dragonborn could be your saving grace.
There is also the aptly named Dragon's Island in the Celestial Sea near the China analogue Celestial Imperium. This island is the size of the Tilvanot Peninsula and is easily isolated enough to house a new race.
And of course there is that 4th unnamed continent that we CF members have toyed with (Antaria). Anything and everything could come from this far flung land mass.
