Population of the Gran March

This - http://www.canonfire.com/cf/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=898&mode=&order=0&thold=0 - is interesting. Two things jump out at me:

1) That is a huge percentage of the population variously under arms. Given that the GM is not faced with any immediately looming threats nor is it pouring its forces into the liberation of Geoff, the GM's neighbors must look at the GM with a great deal of suspicion and apprehension.

2) There seems to be an age-wave problem that will hit the GM as the baby-boomer veterans (what caused that?) continue to gray and are not being replaced by the young population group.

Not criticisms. Just observations.

Hello and thanks for the comments. I know this is somewhat dry compared to many of the articles posted here. However, it seems like a good start for the multitude of Gran March articles I have to post in the near future.

As to your comments.

1st note: I have tried to be as reasonably close to LGG and the material there as possible.

1st Point: You are correct, there are lots of people under arms; at least at first blush. However, if you look closer, there are two categories labled "Reserves," and "Militia." The assumption is that these are groups that are not under arms every day, or at least all of them are not under arms every day. Remember, in the March, every able male, and many females spend up to 7 years in the Military. Therefore, the number of able bodied persons is represented, not the number actually marching.

2nd Point: The figure appear more skewed than they are due to the large age range associated, with the third set, the Veterans age group. It covers a period of 38 years, where as the first two groups only cover 22 years. I think is a reasonable distribution. However, I did anticpate some decline in the less than 20 set, due to the greyhawk wars. After all, GM armies are spread all over the flaness, from IUZ border, to the Pomarj Ulek fights, to Southern Keoland, Geoff/Hochoch, and Bissel.
