Without Eric and Paizo at the helm do people think we should try to drum up some enthusiam for Greyhawk stuff (4e clerics, the Old faith, wizard implements & schools) etc.
I posted a thread on WotC 4e forums and nobody seems interested. We'll never get any GH material unless the fans show a bit of enthusiasm!

Paul, I posted for awhile on WOTC for exactly this reason. The only reason I stopped is because I got tired of the rudeness of the other people posting. Perhaps I was being overly senstive, I'm not sure. Eventually I just started become a passive reader. Not saying I couldn't try again....but that is why I personally stopped. Your right though, without us trying where is Greyhawk going? _________________ Eileen of Greyhawk, Prophet of Istus, Messenger of the Gods
Don't fret though. Greyhawk will get off-handed references like most other settings(though probably not much more than that). _________________ - Moderator/Admin (in some areas)/Member -
I went back and read your post on the 4th edition thread at WOTC as well as the responses you received. My feeling is what has happened is you have come across some folks who feel particularly hurt and disapointed by WOTC approach to Greyhawk. At this point, they feel like its a lost cause.
The best offer I can make at this point in time is attempting to introduce these players to Canonfire, Oerth Journal, and other good Greyhawk sites I'm unaware of myself.
Articles written for this site and Oerth Journal will I'm sure see 4th edition material interjected. I'm debating about how to go about this particular issue myself with something I'm working on.
We may have to be patient. Drumming up interest is a great idea, but I feel at this point offerings to Dragon & Dungeon concerning Greyhawk are not likely to be accepted by the current host of the magazines. I'm am not suggesting not trying, but merely redirecting the resources we as Greyhawk fans can provide. Thus, I get back to Canonfire, Oerth Journal, and possibly Paizo....I've noticed a strong Greyhawk audience there as well.
Please send me your thoughts, agreeing or disagreeing.....I'd like to part of a solution, which is precisely why I got back to you. _________________ Eileen of Greyhawk, Prophet of Istus, Messenger of the Gods
I, for one, hope that WotC keeps their grubby hands off Greyhawk. Since their past efforts have always been disruptive at best and downright destructive at worst, I'm praying they never write another Greyhawk product again. To my mind they've more than adequately demonstrated they have no respect for the setting or its fans.
Besides which, there is plenty of GH material already available. Who needs more? Given all the past products, all the material on this and other websites, all the material in the Oerth Journal, and all the 'generic' material that can easily be converted, there's more than enough to keep me busy. Heck, I've been playing in GH for 30 years and I haven't even come close to exhausting my supply of materials.
And for those of you who are switching to 4e (though Heaven knows why you'd bother), I have it on good authority that the Oerth Journal will be providing plenty of 4e material.
This is not particularly helpful or constructive, but I feel duty bound to say that I agree 100% with Bubbagump's comments above. I don't want anything from Wotc, or their pet projects, regarding GH.
Surely Dragon and Dungeon articles are submitted by writers, presumably not all of whom are homonculi created by WotC? Some may even be writers from Canonfire?
It's true though, I don't particilarly want them to try to shoe-horn 4e into Greyhawk - I'm happy with half-orcs instead of dragonborn and I'm very happy with my rustic halflings leaving the rivers to the rhennee. However, I think talent trees for clerics of specific Greyhawk gods might be useful, confirmation of which Greyhawk wizard schools specialise in which disciplines etc. I want mechanics rather than fluff.
Given that wizards are now being subdivided with different power sources, it might also be nice if somebody helped determine which of the most famous wizards are in fact warlocks, sorcerers, necromancers etc. Obviously, until PHB2 comes out this is not really worth attempting!

I think we will see a fair amount of this once the rules are released. It might show up in Dragon/Dungeon it might not. It really is hard to interpret how they feel about Greyhawk. In the one post it is referred to as the "Greyhawk phenomenon" which hardly sounds negative. Of coarse most everything else they do or don't do relating to Greyhawk comes across as less than positive. I really would like a straight answer from WOTC about how they feel about Greyhawk. Do the actually dislike it? Do they resent it because it was someone elses work? Do they wish it would go away? Do they not understand why people like it? A straight answer, not any of this "dance around crap".
I think Canonfire, Oerth Journal and similar sites will see a lot of revision in the articles being posted. I wasn't visiting Web sites when 3rd edition came out but I suspect that is what happened. Depsite radical changes in the game there will be plenty of people switching and writing articles. _________________ Eileen of Greyhawk, Prophet of Istus, Messenger of the Gods
Wotc will never admit to anything regarding GH, whether they like it or loathe it, or more likely it's players, because they'll want to keep the bridge intact to make money out of us if they feel they can. The people who write for Wotc are not necessarily clones, although I have my suspicions. However, they are writing to a formula, 32 page adventures, 128 page sourcebooks etc, regardless of whether a subject can generate 128 pages of good quality material or not.
Again, I have to say I'm totally in agreement with Bubbagump. Wotc's writers do not produce quality material in general and their record in dealing with Greyhawk has been poor at best. My belief is, if you want good, well thought out material for your GH campaign get it from this site or do it yourself. That is the only guarantee of independent thought and honesty of intent.
Dragon and Dungeon does have Greyhawkian content, okay so not every edition, but they don't have Ebberon or Forgotten realms stuff in every edition either.
Dragon 364, Ashen Covenant (Orcus cult) would fit in with Bone March or Pomraj
Dragon 366, Ritually Speaking has some Mordekainen and Tenser rituals.
Bloodghost Synicate (Bugbear mercenaries) would fit in with Bone March or Bandit Kingdoms.
Dragon 365 and 369 have a pile of magical items that could be used in Greyhawk no problems.
Dragon 371, Legacy of Acererak (all about his cult) with information a campaign and PC background tie ins.
Dragon 372, Secrets of the City Entombed (Necromantic lore found in a ruined city) can be worked into a ruined city from bygone eras, maybe Sea of Dust or even deep in the hills of the former Great Kingdom.
Dragon 373, Art of the Kill, notes on assassins and their guilds. Could be useful with Scarlet Brotherhood, Greyhawk City assassins guild. In my campaign I have -
Shadow Assassins : Dedicated slayers of any creatures for a price. Fierce rivals of Scarlet Brotherhood.
- Bases in Ket (12 members), Bissel (5 members), Keoland (6 members), Duchy of Urnst (7 members), Almor (4 members), Greyhawk City (9 members).
Dungeon 156 onwards has the Scales of War campaign path, which can be inserted into Sterich, Sunndi, Ket or Bone march (last two would change the style though)
I like and dislike some stuff from each edition and both magazines, I use what I like from each and try to maintain a consistant world/campaign as best I can.
When you buy a magazine or supplment you generally don't use all of it all the time. Eg you don't use every monster in the monster manual/compendium, you just pick what bits you want to use during that campaign, in this case what seems Greyhawkian.
Since there is considerable support for Greyhawk I would be happy to take part in a collaborative effort to make 'our Greyhawk' the way we want it. If we can get 10+ Game Masters involved, agree on what we want, post the details and stick with it that is fine with me.
If WOTC release 4th ed Greyhawk then we can see if/what we use or not and whether to incorporate it into Our Greyhawk.
We can be active instead of reactive, and these forums are proof of that.
I, for one, hope that WotC keeps their grubby hands off Greyhawk. Since their past efforts have always been disruptive at best and downright destructive at worst, I'm praying they never write another Greyhawk product again.
The reality is without major support Greyhawk will slowly wither as older players stop playing or move on so I for one do hope they recognize Greyhawk.
