A thread for puncturing the hagiography nonsense which revolves around EGG!
I'll have more tomorrow, but here's a start:
Mismanaged TSR, took his ball and went home;
Railed against Monty Haul dungeons, of which he was the apparent Erz-Herzog;
Talked about the need for creativity and independence, and then wrote entire essays in Dragon threatening excommunication for anyone who dared use a variant not recognized by Tactical Studies Rules.
I feel like I'm back in the late 1980's again - where if you weren't if lockstep with the "We Hate Gary Gygax" crowd, you then you were just as bad as he was.
-An apparent practicioner of the hagiography of which I speak.
I first subscribed to Dragon magazine in part because of EGG's regular "New from the Flanaess" articles (the other half was Moore's articles on the demi-humans). Of course, those articles stopped, largely because he had a D&D cartoon and movie to produce. How did that work out?
I'm not saying he was a bad guy, but can we stop treating him like he was a cross between George Washington and Abraham Lincoln?
Actually, EGG gets better treatment than they do...
A forum to discuss extreme Greyhawk setting variants. No rules or canon conventions required."
First off, I guess you missed that bit.
Second, pouring gasoline on a fire is not quite the way to endear me to your cause.
Third, a thread on a topic such as this would be worth something if the person putting forth the information actually knew exactly what they were talking about because they were personally involved, rather than just being emotionally invested.
Rather than unleash a thread based on flaming, and which surely will continue on as such, thread closed. _________________ - Moderator/Admin (in some areas)/Member -
