I use campaign catographer. I'm not very great at it and I feel that the program is quite complex. For the sample maps I have seen generated from this program though, it seems to do quite a bit. The company does seem to upgrade their program frequently (there on Campaign Cartographer 3 now). The company also offers lots of add on's one can use for more detail such as caves, castles, temples, etc. I use the basic program for outdoor maps. It will allow hex and square grids both. You can adjust the size of the hexes and squares to include larger or smaller ones. The amount of options it provides is staggering in my opinion. I had a hard time fiquring out the basics but once you do, I think it is well worth it. The program is available through Pro Fantasy. Try this link. The program cost me $45.00. I believe add on's were around $20-25 each. Add on's are optional and give you greater selection of floors, furniture, symbols etc.
I've used up ton's of ink trying to get things right (I am overly picky about details). Now I have gotten to the point where I think when I add to the outdoor map of Greyhawk I'll just leave it on the computer. I always worry about losing the map should something go wrong and I like printed copies, but the ink cost is enormous. I wanted to put the most detail into the maps as possible so I elected to try and do each hex individually. I haven't gotten real far on it and it probably isn't the most efficent way of doing things, but like I said, I'm not very good with these sorts of things. _________________ Eileen of Greyhawk, Prophet of Istus, Messenger of the Gods
Thanks but right now Free has to be the operative word for me. LOL
Sorry, missed those particular 4 letters when I read your post. I humbly beg for forvgiveness and vow someone around Canonfire to give you 1 year servitude (starts looking around to see who's in the room). _________________ Eileen of Greyhawk, Prophet of Istus, Messenger of the Gods
The following may be useful. I can't promise that all of the links work, or that they're all free but in general I haven't saved bookmarks for non-free mapping programs, so you're probably good there.
