Not specifically the Flaneass, so...

I work under the philosophy that the PCs main edge is their nearly limitless cool and courage (mostly, they don't normally check morale or discipline), and slightly better than average stats. I don't give many other freebies, and I always give the NPCs (hostile or friendly) as much of a chance as the players (allowing for the above). I never treat NPCs as "red shirts", unless they really are untrained or stupid.
