Easter Eggs

While studying Curse of Strahd I noticed a fun easter egg (fun for a film/theatre geek like me anyway), and it got me wondering how many other TSR/WoC modules had fun easter eggs in them. Not just references to other modules, but to RL things/places/people.

For instance, in CoS, an NPC keeps a journal, ostensibly of his many travels. In it he mentions witnessing a "giant man-eating plant with a remarkable singing voice". An obvious reference to Audrey II and Little Shop of Horrors.

Anyone know of any?

I don't recall very clearly, but there was an adventure in a Dungeon Magazine that featured a morkoth on a tropical island. There were several commoners shipwrecked there and the captain of their wrecked ship kept referring to his dead First Mate as, "My little buddy." :)

Also from Dungeon, I think, was a module based on Shakespear's MacBeth. I think it involved drow, but I don't recall much of that one at all.

When I write, I love to put easter eggs into my creative work. Some may be obvious, but others are so obscure that only a few may recognize them. One of the more obvious ones I used in The Fen of the Five-fold Maw was to name a married gnomish alchemist and wizard, Gyre and Gimbol. Wink
